Matt Epp Returns Sept 22nd

Some singer-songwriters have a certain ‘je ne sais pas quoi’ such that when they perform, the hair on the back of your neck quivers and your toes begin to curl in awe.  Matt Epp is such a performer.

…Epp has this weighty pitch that travels right to the core, and can either make your heart feel incredibly heavy or lift you right to your feet. If you like music, you’ll like this. (A+ review of Orphan Horse)

with Epp’s soothing voice, its gentle ballads will linger in your mind, coaxing you into lending your ear. (EXCLAIM! Review Feb/2010 Safe or Free)

Matt released his fifth album ‘At Dawn’ last April: From Amoria with Love                                    …..An exceptional songwriter and a transnational band in service of an “Empire of Love”; the story behind the new Matt Epp recording sounds like great cinema. Amoria, which was given it’s name from the Latin root for ‘Love’, is not a city, not a country; it’s an Empire. But don’t look for Amoria on any map except the one Matt draws on his new album, At Dawn. The album was recorded live-off-the-floor in Winnipeg, with additional tracking done in Granada, Spain and around Canada. The songs have incredible diversity sonically, while topically they remain loyal to the matters of the heart and soul Epp is known for.

Join us for an evening with Matt Epp.

Saturday, September 22nd                                                                                                       8 pm start                                                                                                                                        $20 (all funds to the performer)

There will be 2 sets with a short break in between.  Matt will have CDs available for purchase.  A brand new one in fact.

Please RSVP* via email (mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com).  Directions and reminders will follow.   Non-alcoholic beverages will be offered.  You are invited to take along any wine/beer/etc. that you wish to enjoy.  There will be a selection of munchies at the break.  Contributions to the munchies table will be graciously accepted and appreciated although not required.

(*When you commit to attending, your seat is reserved for you (or for an alternate if you can’t make it at the last minute). The artist counts on the number of people who have committed, and so do we to keep our house as a good and reliable venue to continue to bring fantastic musicians to you in such an intimate setting.  In short: if you say you’re coming, please do so.  Thanks)

Best,                                                                                                                                                     Monique

Summer 2012 has been a beauty thus far.   At Patchwork, we’ve decided to add to this awesomeness by having a summer house concert.  And who better to entertain us on a warm summer evening but the indescribable STEVE POLTZ.

(I know it’s a Tuesday but it’s the last week of August – close to your last chance to indulge in summer fun before September hits once again….)

$20 per person (all $$ goes to Steve)

Scarlett Jane will heat things up on June 16

Last year at about this time, Patchwork hosted Andrea Ramolo.  She was an unknown entity for us at the time but man we were ever impressed!  What an engaging performer with a unique and powerful voice.  She was touring Canada to promote her second cd ‘The Shadows and the Cracks’.

Fast forward one year….She has since teamed up with fellow road warrior, Cindy Doire to form Scarlett Jane and they are touring the country together to promote their first collaboration ‘Stranger’.

We have been looking forward to this show for months!  If you visit their website (scarlettjane.com) you will hear a sample of their sound and can read about their individual careers,  what the ‘press’ are saying and what brought them together.  “The blend of their voices stopped conversations” may be part of it…..

One listen to their captivating voices and you’ll instantly be intrigued. Andrea Ramolo and Cindy Doire are the singer and songwriters behind the duo Scarlett Jane, being named one of the most exciting new collaborations in recent Canadian music. Already generating buzz on the Canadian music scene without much promotion, speaks volumes of the natural talent this duo has. Their debut album, Stranger combines a progressive roots rock sound with a mix of folk and country influences.   Rosanna Bonura, Tandem Online

Scarlett Jane – Andrea Ramolo & Cindy Doire – Saturday, June 16

8 pm start

$20 (all funds given to the musicians)

Erin Costelo – May 26

Halifax based Erin Costelo is a musician, singer-songwriter & composer extraordinaire with a rich velvety voice and a piano style all her own.  We love her stuff more and more each time we hear it.  Recently we enjoyed a performance by Erin at the Company House – accompanied by the Blue Engine String Quartet (I think she did all the arrangements for them for that show!) and again at the Al Whittle Theatre with Stephen Fearing.  Erin & Stephen performed several songs that they penned together including a gorgeous piece to commemorate the Titanic anniversary.

Erin will be performing at Patchwork on Saturday, May 26 starting at 8 pm.  We will be collecting $20 per listener (all proceeds go directly to Erin, to support a new album perhaps!).

It’s always helpful if you RSVP via email (mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com) or at 434-8355.  That way we know how to arrange the furniture. A reminder will go out a couple of days before that will include directions for newbies and those who’ve forgotten the way.
