Celebrating Canada’s 150th with …. music

Kate Vargas – July 14, 2017

Andrea Wittgens – July 14, 2017

Andrea & Kate

It is a big year for Canada.  So why not have a couple of house concerts this summer?  The irony is, our July and August musicians make their homes in the US.  But two of them were born here…..

Friday, July 14 @ 8 pm: Andrea Wittgens & Kate Vargas  Tickets: $20 at the door

Tuesday, August 15 @ 8 pm: Steve Poltz Tickets: $30 at the door

All shows are BYOB.  Snacks provided (and shareable snacks welcome).

RSVP: mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com or by calling 902 434-8355.

Patchwork House Concerts is located on First Ave. in Bedford, NS.

Our first show on FRIDAY, JULY 14 features two women singer-songwriters who will bring power, heart, soul and a little Tom-Waits-inspired-grit to the Patchwork stage.

Andrea Wittgens  grew up in Antigonish but now makes New York City her home.  Her sound (kinda pop, kinda jazz) is so unique it is best to simply check out some videos:
https://www.andreawittgens.com/home

Forget all that compared to this and that stuff, Wittgens is her own voice and it’s one you’ll be glad to hear. Hot stuff from a newcomer that’s sure to be around for a while. – CHRIS SPECTOR, Midwest Record

Kate Vargas  grew up in New Mexico and has also made NYC her home.  Her sound is bluesy-folk but check out her voice! https://www.kate-vargas.com/home
“Vargas dropped an acoustic version of her song ‘Rise The Moon’ and it will be sure to capture your full attention. The singer connects with the music on an emotional level that will take listeners on a wild ride and back. There is an unlimited amount of potential in this superstar on the rise.” — Kyle Stevens, Huffington Post

More info to follow about the Poltz show.  You are welcome to RSVP now.

Best,

Monique & George

Earth Day with Kane & Potvin

Kane & Potvin were fantastic.  When they are back around, go see them! Uber talented musicians. Confident. Funny. Charming.

Do you remember the Canadian bands The Grapes of Wrath and The Northern Pikes?  The bands that ate up the charts in the late 80’s early 90s?  The lead singers of these two iconic Canadian bands (Kevin Kane and Bryan Potvin) have formed a duo performing classic songs from their days as front men for these groups as well as original material written as part of their newly discovered synergy as song writers.  The result…..well come to Patchwork House Concerts on April 22nd and see for yourself!  You will not be disappointed.

Saturday, April 22: Kane & Potvin                                        https://www.kaneandpotvin.com

Doors: 7:30 pm   Show time: 8 pm                                                                                 Tickets: $30 IN ADVANCE** (all $$$ to the artists).  To RSVP and arrange payment, send an email to mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com. It can be done by e-transfer or we can make other arrangements for drop off.

**We have started selling tickets in advance for our house concerts, for a few reasons…..it will really help us plan set-up (including snack preparation) and provide assurances to the artists that they will have an audience.  We’ve had evenings where a bunch of people who RSVP’d did not show up (ain’t that a drag for the artists – who get 100 % of the door) and evenings where people show up without RSVP’ing creating some space challenges (we really want everyone to be comfortable).  So, decide to join us, make a commitment and get your $$ to me (either by e-transfer or by dropping it to me at work downtown Halifax or home) then mark the date(s) in your calendar with a big happy face.

Full house for Laurenn Marchand & Dave Sampson

April 1 – Dave Sampson & Laurenn Marchand

This is not an April fool’s joke folks! On April 1 we welcome back Dave Sampson.  He’ll be here with Laurenn Marchand.

See Upcoming page for info on our Earth Day show featuring Kane & Potvin.

Dave’s debut album had this catchy tune “No Pressure, No Diamonds” that was picked up by Classified and went nuts on billboard charts.  Dave also collaborated with Neon Dreams on their single “Love Experts” which made it to the billboard EDM top 40.  But Sampson is not just a song writer.  He delivers his songs with a captivating voice that could blow down a brick house.

“Heartfelt, energized and emotional, Dave Sampson has obvious natural talent as a singer-songwriter.  Recommended for fans of Joel Plaskett, David Myles and Hawksley Workman.”

We discovered Laurenn Marchand at this year’s In-the-dead-of-winter festival and loved her songs, her voice and her stories.  Laurenn, often compared to Feist and Joni Mitchell, is an indie/folk singer-songwriter who will bring warmth to your soul.  Her debut EP, Ghosts in the Garden, was nominated for Solo Recording of the Year, Folk Recording of the Year and New Artist Recording of the Year at the 2016 MNS Awards.
