Jeffery Straker – November 28

One of our favorite Canadian musicians stops by to round out our 2015 concert series…..

Jeffery Straker and his piano-folk-pop music are often compared to a mixture of early Elton John, Billy Joel, Sarah Slean and Harry Chapin. He performs over 100 shows per year across Canada, but east coast dates are few and far between so this is a show not to miss. He has recorded for CBC radio’s ‘Canada Live’, had a music video chart in the top 10 on Much More Music Canada and has toured internationally as far as Peru, Mexico and Ghana. His tour stops range from intimate house concerts to club and theatre shows and include recent sold-out concerts with Canadian symphony orchestras in Saskatoon, Regina and Sudbury. The review following his orchestral debut read: “Straker was simply spectacular…clearly one of the province’s best cultural exports”. Canadian Musician Magazine has said, “Very much an artist to watch” while the Chicago Free Press has written, “Rufus Wainwright, as well as k.d. lang are among the Canadians making essential and beautiful music. Add the name Jeffery Straker to that list”. His latest career boost came from winning the prestigious Vina del Mar (Chile) song competition in February 2014 where he represented Canada. Performing live to a festival crowd of 20,000 people and to a TV audience of 100,000,000 viewers across the Spanish speaking world he quickly gained a fan following putting him in demand for performances in Latin America.

Christina Martin – Special Thanksgiving Show

On Saturday, October 10 come celebrate music with a special Thanksgiving house concert featuring Christina Martin.  She will be joined on stage by Dale Murray.   The fact that this will be Christina’s 5th time at Patchwork reflects the high regard we have for her and her music.  Christina and Dale consistently knock their shows out of the park; case in point: the cd release for her new album It’ll Be Alright at the Spatz Theatre this past February.  Here is what Bob Mersereau, Author of the Top 100 Canadian Albums, said about It’ll Be Alright: “Always known as one of the area’s best lyricists, with an ability to get right inside the heart of her characters and listeners, Martin has translated that emotion in a bigger rock sound.”

Check out her music and some amazing videos at http://www.christinamartin.net

“Fans of Petty and Springsteen, this is for you” Voted 9/10 Americana-UK

“Vocally Supreme, Lyrically Superb and the music is second to none.”  Rock Bandom-UK

“Rootsy East Coast songstress Christina Martin delivers another winner with her fifth album, It’ll Be Alright.” Kerry Doole, New Canadian Music

Christina and Dale spend a lot of time on the road and they will be taking off yet again later this fall so don’t miss this chance to see them live playing songs from her new and previous catalogue.

Show time is 8 pm. $20 per person (all money goes to the musicians, every time)

BYOB. Snacks offered (shareable snacks accepted gratefully but not required)

RSVP to mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com or by calling 902 434-8355.

If you have family from out of town visiting for the long weekend, take them with you.  All listeners welcome.

Pat LePoidevin – May 2nd

Pat LePoidevin will be bringing a brand new EP to his spring shows, adding to a long list of fabulous collections of original songs.  His previous cd American Fiction remains my favourite find of 2015 with songs that are captivating and beautiful.

And he will be joined on stage by Audrey Brouillet on cello!  I love the cello.  Don’t you?

Possibly the most powerful male singer-songwriter signed up to Searchlight this year. This guy has LUNGS. And LYRICS. For fans of Dan Mangan, Patrick Watson, and Bon Iver.
– Grant Lawrence, CBC Music

Check out his website and facebook page for some sneak peaks facebook.com/patlepoidevin or http://www.patlepoidevin.com

Patchwork show is Saturday, May 2 @  8 pm   $15 suggested donation (all $$ to the artists, as usual)

Born of a sleepy mountain town in British Columbia and built in equal parts by Scotland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and the Yukon, Pat LePoidevin is a songwriter strongly influenced by community. With an extensive songwriting resume and four albums to his name, LePoidevin has built a sizable fan base on relentless touring and standout performances at some of Canada’s most prestigious music festivals, including the Dawson City Music Festival and SappyFest. On stage, LePoidevin is like a warm light filtering through cold windows to frozen streets. His powerful, melodic vocals bring life to his songs. With friends and fans across the country, LePoidevin is at home wherever he is playing.

RSVP to mleblanc.patchwork@gmail.com or to 902-434-8355.  Non-alcoholic beverages will be offered.  You are invited to take along any wine/beer/etc. that you wish to enjoy.  There will be a selection of munchies at the break.  Contributions to the munchies table will be shared appreciatively but are not required.
