Next great show…..

While we relish in the excitement of Canada Games (or nurse a new Cuban tan!), it’s time to set up the chairs for 2 great March shows.

The first one is Friday, March 11 @ 8 pm: Molly Thomason & James Struthers

Perhaps you haven’t heard these names before …. just you wait!

Molly is a grade 11 International Baccalaureate student in Antigonish.  Described by her peers as an ‘old soul with huge reserves of passion’ this young singer-songwriter released her first CD, Through the Static when she was just 14.   It was nominated as New Artist Recording of the Year for Music Nova Scotia 2009, and Pop/Rock Recording of the Year for 2010.

She was invited to perform for delegates in the early stages of the Canada Winter Games planning, and was honoured at the annual Sports Hall of Fame event in the spring of 2010, as a young person and artist making an impact in Nova Scotia.  She was a semi finalist in the International Songwriting Competition with her song Little Bones.  Her song People Lie won a Viewfinder competition with the Atlantic Film Festival, was produced and recorded by Halifax Producer Asif Illyas, and was released as a Music Video as part of the Film Festival, September 18th.

In December 2010 she started work with producer Dale Murray on her second album, to be called Beauty Queen, due for release late spring 2011.

Her music and writing has been compared to a young Joni Mitchell, her voice to Regina Spector, but she cites Bob Dylan and T-Bone Burnett as two of her great musical heros.

“…it isn’t often that one so young with relatively little life experience is able to express feelings that are only understood with age – Molly Thomason has been given a great gift.”  Glenn Meisner, Producer, Atlantic Airwaves, CBC Radio, September 2009

James is another young singer-songwriter from Winnipeg.  A technically skilled guitarist and incredibly gifted vocalist, Struthers is being compared to the likes of John Mayer and Jason Mraz.  He released a six-song cd ‘Nadia’ in April 2010 and is now hard at work on his next album.  This while launching a 24-day/6 provinces tour of Canada, working at CHUM Winnipeg and completing his psychology degree at the University of Manitoba!
