To be able to say “I saw them when…..” Here is one of those chances!
Zamani – 2019 ANSMA Emerging Artist of the Year &
Logan Richard – 2019 ECMA nominee for Blues recording of the year – together at Patchwork.
Logan Richard – ECMA 2019 Nominee for Blues Recording of the Year – grew up in Stratford, PEI. He picked up the guitar at the age of 10 and quickly became known among the local blues crowd as a force to be reckoned with. At age 12, Logan formed a blues group with some friends called “Ripped Paper” and played venues all over Prince Edward Island. This led to a few other groups including The Elusive Kings, Generator and (my favourite name) The Love Junkies.
Logan recently released “Lover Again” – a new single which is getting a ton of airplay on CBC, adding to his 3 song EP entitled “The Split” and a follow up single titled “Halfway to Go”. He has shared the stage with Tim Chaisson, Paper Lions and Charlie A’Court and on March 30, will share the stage with Zamani.
Zamani has been described as captivating, satiny-soulful and refreshingly pure and she is but 17 years old. Zamani skillfully composes, produces, and performs a unique brand of R&B, Soul, Jazz and Pop. Hailing from a musical family (her mother is an award-winning songwriter and her father is an award-winning smooth jazz guitarist), Zamani’s unique musical style reflects a variety of eclectic musical exposures with inspriation from India Arie, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, Natalie Cole, Lalah Hathaway, Mariah Carey and Beyonce.
After wowing an audience at the age of 13, Zamani’s debut jazz performance at the Halifax TD International Jazz Festival won her the praise of Jazz Festival headliner Sharon Jones of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and earned her a spot on the African Nova Scotian Music Awards (ANSMA). In 2018 she was named co-recipient of the ANSMA Portia White Youth Music Award and named a recipient of the Jongleur Youth Arts Performance Award by award winning Montreal-based jazz vocalist Jeri Brown. Late last year, Zamani captured a lead role in the World premiere of Viola Desmond – The Musical.
Now with three single recordings recently released to Soundcloud, two music videos released to YouTube (“Switchin Lanes” and “Lush Life”) an R&B recording set for release in the summer 2019, along with a summer performance lineup that includes performances in Vancouver, Toronto, Rotterdam, Netherlands (The New Skool Rules Festival) and St. Lucia (Roots and Soul Festival), Zamani is poised to make her international debut.
It gives us great pleasure to introduce Halifax area audiences to these two up-and-coming, ‘set to take off’ blues/jazz/R&B artists. Join us for a little magic in the making.
