Well the weather outside is certainly frightful but it won’t be frightful in here for these next two shows. Tickets are moving quickly so if you have not purchased yours yet, well….
Quote the Raven (see them now folks – this folk-pop duo from Newfoundland is poised to take off!) ($18) Saturday, February 2. Tickets
Quote the Raven is Jordan Coaker and Kirsten Rodden-Clarke who are a harmony match-made-in-heaven.
Ariana Nasr & Curtis Thorpe (jazz and world classics including Edith Piaf – mais oui!) ($20) Sunday, February 10 @ 3 pm (MATINEE) Doors at 2:30 pm Tickets
Ariana Nasr and Curtis Thorpe are two multi-instrumentalists who really click. Although they now make their home in Montréal, both hail from Nova Scotia where they each had separate music careers for many years. It was only in the fall of 2016 when Ariana asked Curtis to accompany her Piaf & Brel show that the click was formed.
Ariana can and will sing almost anything. You can catch her interpreting jazz, soul or world classics, but her most popular performance has been her interpretation of the music of Édith Piaf. She spent the last several years creating and touring a tribute show to French greats Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel. The logical next step was to move to a French speaking environment! Thus, Ariana and Curtis relocated to Montréal together in January 2017 to pursue their love of performance and the French language.
Curtis is a versatile player who can deliver a gorgeous solo performance featuring complex finger-style guitar picking, or he could be found playing electric guitar or bass in a rock band. And many things in between. He loves the harmonica as a solo instrument and has integrated it as both accompaniment and solo instrument in his performances. In the duo show he is a one-man band playing guitar, harmonica and percussion simultaneously whilst Ariana sings, plays soprano saxophone (her first love), accordion or violin.
Last summer, Ariana Nasr & Curtis Thorpe released a CD titled “Padam Padam” – featuring classics from France, the Balkans and the Americas.
