Norma MacDonald & Jason MacDonald – November 12

Though not related, both Norma and Jason hail from Cape Breton and both have played Patchwork before.  As exciting as that is, get this: they each have a new cd!

Norma released her 3rd cd ‘Morning You Wake’ in June of this year and it has picked up 3 Music NS Awards nominations including Folk Recording of the Year and Female Artist Recording of the Year (whoop whoop).

Her big vocals, heartfelt delivery and sharp wit are hallmarks of her live performances.  http://normamacdonald.com

Jason has just released his 3rd recording ‘On the Way’ – too late for 2011 NS Music Week but based on his earlier work, we expect to see him on the list for 2012.

His energy, storytelling and warm personality create a connection with audiences…        http://www.jasonmacdonald.com/home.cfm

Join us for Ian Sherwood on September 10

Award winning songwriter, Ian Sherwood mixes catchy melodies and heart-breaking stories with intricate guitar loops, saxophones and pop/rock/jazz grooves to create music that has been described as “Traditional singer/songwriter style at it’s essence.”

His energetic stage show and honest presentation have quickly gained him recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player and garnered him Music Nova Scotia’s 2008 and 2010 Musician of the Year award .

Those of you who came to Coco Love Alcorn’s show this spring got a sneak peak of Ian’s multi-talentedness (is that a word?), smooth voice and sense of fun.

You know that Silk Soy Milk? The chocolate kind? That’s what his voice sounds like.
Shaun Majumder, Comedian

The house has been too quiet

It’s time to bring up the chairs from the basement, dust off the email list and figure out what to do with the new, rather large coffee table….After 2 months of summer festivals Patchwork is ready to welcome music lovers back into the living room.  Our first show is coming right up – September 10 with the multi-talented Ian Sherwood.  More details soon but plan to join us!

Andrea Ramolo – June 24

With summer fast approaching (at least that’s what the calendar is telling me) we are soon going to take a wee break from hosting shows but not before we put the icing on the cake that has been a phenomenal run of shows these past few months.

We are so very pleased to welcome Andrea Ramolo to the living room as she passes through NS on her Canadian tour promoting her second cd, The Shadow and the Cracks.  Described as an ‘antidote to too much Joni Mitchell, a tougher Dolly Parton and a sexier Janis Joplin’,  Andrea has a sound that is all her own, a sound that earned her the 2009 Toronto Exclusive Magazine awards for Best Female Folk Artist, Best Folk Album and Best Blues Song.  Check out her website.

Poltz at Patchwork : Dr. Seuss would come if he still stood….

For a final reminder about Patchwork’s next show with Steve Poltz this coming weekend, I thought I’d try to compose an entire post using only Seuss-isms and Poltz-isms.  Here goes:

Whereas Dr. Seuss said                                                  Steve Poltz says

Today you are You, that is truer than true             You make your way, you try the best   There is no one alive who is Youer than You.         you can.   You remind me who I am.

Be who you are say what you feel because              If you want to behave like a 10 year those who mind don’t matter and those                   old, that’s ok by me                                 who matter don’t mind                                                 Sometimes you gotta be bold

The more that you read, the more things                Wanna read a book, learn how to          you will know.  The more that you learn,                 cook, Visit some strange exotic               the more places you’ll go.                                             land.  I’ll try to lend a helping hand

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful        Give a little bit and then give more     lot, nothing is going to get better.  It’s not.

So be sure when you step.  Step with care              Every action has a reaction                      and great tact.  And remember that life’s                Every action makes a ripple                             A Great Balancing Act.

Today is your day!  Your mountain is waiting.      I’m gonna cram all the living that I can So…..Get on your way.                                                 To every single hour of every day

Words are fallin’ out, I know.  They drift, they pass, they melt like snow

Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.  You have brains in your head.  You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself, any direction you choose…

to Patchwork                                                                                                                     Sunday, May 22

Steve Poltz(Hey) cat in the hat                                                                                                         $20 per person

BYOB

Bringing snacks to share optional
You could be wild or be a machine…you could be lost in space or be a green bean.                   With laughter curling softly out of your grin.

I’m glad we had the times together just to laugh and sing a song, seems like we just got started and then before you know it,    the times we had together were gone….          Don’t cry because it’s over.  Smile because it happened.

 How did I do?

Monique
