Stephen Fearing – January 14, 2012

Patchwork is kicking off 2012 with a stellar show featuring multiple Juno Award winner Stephen Fearing.   Stephen’s April 2011 show at Patchwork attracted our biggest audience to date and no wonder – Fearing is one of Canada’s most engaging and entertaining performers.

Mixing powerful lyrics, creative arrangements and brilliant guitar playing, Fearing has built up a loyal and dedicated international audience with a wide range of songs – from his 1988 release Out to Sea, to his 2007 Juno winning album Yellowjacket.  He is a founding member of the highly successful Canadian roots rock super trio, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings,  and has collaborated with many artists including Shawn Colvin, Richard Thompson, Sarah McLachlan, Tom Wilson and Colin Linden.

His latest recording, The Man Who Married Music is a ‘Best Of’ collection, with tracks handpicked by Stephen, featuring some of the best music he has released over his career as well as two brand new tracks No Dress Rehearsal and The Big East West.

The consistent quality of work produced over Stephen Fearing’s two decades plus career has earned him a West Coast Music Award for Best Folk Music Recording and five Juno Award nominations as a solo artist and a faithful international fan base.  On top of that, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings have released seven highly praised and award-winning albums including a Juno Award for “BARK”.   Their seventh album ‘Kings and Queens’ was released in June 2011 and pairs the band with some of their favorite female singers and friends and some of the biggest names in roots, blues and jazz including Roseanne Cash, Holly Cole and Serena Ryder.

Norma MacDonald & Jason MacDonald – November 12

Though not related, both Norma and Jason hail from Cape Breton and both have played Patchwork before.  As exciting as that is, get this: they each have a new cd!

Norma released her 3rd cd ‘Morning You Wake’ in June of this year and it has picked up 3 Music NS Awards nominations including Folk Recording of the Year and Female Artist Recording of the Year (whoop whoop).

Her big vocals, heartfelt delivery and sharp wit are hallmarks of her live performances.  http://normamacdonald.com

Jason has just released his 3rd recording ‘On the Way’ – too late for 2011 NS Music Week but based on his earlier work, we expect to see him on the list for 2012.

His energy, storytelling and warm personality create a connection with audiences…        http://www.jasonmacdonald.com/home.cfm

We’ve seen both Norma and Jason perform several times.  This is a sure thing folks – a wonderful evening awaits….

Join us for Ian Sherwood on September 10

Award winning songwriter, Ian Sherwood mixes catchy melodies and heart-breaking stories with intricate guitar loops, saxophones and pop/rock/jazz grooves to create music that has been described as “Traditional singer/songwriter style at it’s essence.”

His energetic stage show and honest presentation have quickly gained him recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player and garnered him Music Nova Scotia’s 2008 and 2010 Musician of the Year award .

Those of you who came to Coco Love Alcorn’s show this spring got a sneak peak of Ian’s multi-talentedness (is that a word?), smooth voice and sense of fun.

You know that Silk Soy Milk? The chocolate kind? That’s what his voice sounds like.

The house has been too quiet

It’s time to bring up the chairs from the basement, dust off the email list and figure out what to do with the new, rather large coffee table….After 2 months of summer festivals Patchwork is ready to welcome music lovers back into the living room.  Our first show is coming right up – September 10 with the multi-talented Ian Sherwood.  More details soon but plan to join us!
