(Kevin) Kane & (Bryan) Potvin as Hollows Eve nears….

THIS SHOW HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO FEB 10, 2024

A warm welcome to our many new subscribers whom we met on the weekend at the Red Dirt Skinners show. Wow-za – can Sarah play that sax!!! And welcome fall, for many – the best season of the year. At Patchwork we tend to agree with three awesome shows before us:

October 28: Kane & Potvin Tickets here

For those of us who were around in the 1990s, The Grapes of Wrath and The Northern Pikes are names that bring back lots of memories …. these were and are two hugely successful and influential Canadian rock bands. (Kevin) Kane & (Bryan) Potvin were principal songwriters in those respective bands and responsible for some of the biggest hits of the day, and Kevin is now a permanent member of the Pikes.

Fast forward to 2023 and both Kevin and Bryan live in Nova Scotia, making it easier for them to write and perform – together. Playing classic hits and new collaborations with a penance honed from decades on stage makes for one heck of a good show. Join us in the living room for an intimate and engaging night of songs and stories…..

November 11: Dennis Ellsworth & Terra Spencer Tickets here

Dennis Ellsworth is a songwriter, performer, sideman, and record producer from Charlottetown, PE. His songwriting career started in high school, filling notebooks with lyrics and poems. He grew up on the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Ray Charles, Kris Kristofferson, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Over the years he has collaborated with Josh Finlayson and Andy Maize from Skydiggers, Gord Downie from The Tragically Hip, Joel Plaskett, Donovan Woods, & Rose Cousins. In 2015 Dennis signed a publishing deal with Cymba Music Publishing in Toronto and has since written songs in a wide variety of styles His music has appeared in television shows for CBC, Netflix, HBO and was featured in the award-winning film, The New Romantic.

Raised on the mud banks of the Avon River, award-winning Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer has won over audiences in Canada, the UK, and Germany since her 2018 debut. She has already crafted a catalogue of startlingly intimate songs, marrying fingerstyle guitar, gospel piano, and her butterscotch voice with sly humour and 70s wood-paneled warmth. Terra recently released her third album, Old News, created with Ben Caplan and celebrated with a cross-Canada and UK tour, and will join David Francey in 2023  for his upcoming album release tour. In a room of 5 or 500, every show is a knee-to-knee conversation with a natural storyteller. “The real deal.” – Ron Sexsmith.

December 2: Leanne Hoffman Tickets here

Leanne Hoffman performs a tightrope walk between the sensual immediacy of pop music and poetry’s revelatory nuance on The Text Collector. Using the swirling melodies and glitzed-up production of Top 40, The Nova Scotia-based multidisciplinary artist builds tension between soundscapes primed for pure pleasure and lyrics that address the interconnected relationship between desire and despair.

A year of sustained and intensive artistic devotion served as the catalyst for The Text Collector. In early 2019, Hoffman set out to write a poem every day for 365 days. When the year was up, Hoffman connected the project to her own singular take on pop.

“Some of the songs say things I’ve been looking to say for a long time—I just couldn’t really get there,” Hoffman says. “Having a poem that says it perfectly already means I didn’t have to search for the words. Because when I was writing the poems, I wasn’t thinking about songs. I was thinking, ‘How do I perfectly express this thing that I feel?’”

Co-produced by award-winning producer Erin Costelo and Hoffman herself, The Text Collector deconstructs poetry and pop music, rebuilding the pieces into a listening experience even richer than the sum of its parts.

So gather some friends – grab your tickets – and head on over – easy as that!  For each show, the artist(s) take 100% of ticket sales.  We provide a stage, an audience and offer snacks to guests. All shows are BYOB.  Bringing music-loving-friends and visiting family members is strongly encouraged.  See you soon 🙂
